The South African car market has a new entry to the SUV segment as the new GWM Tank 300 launches this week.

A HEV model featuring a 2.0-litre turbo engine is on sale immediately. A pair of non-hybrid models joins the range in March. The latter models have power outputs of 162kW and 380Nm.

THE GWM TANK 300 WILL TAKE ON THE TOYOTA FORTUNER

Pricing for the GWM Tank 300 kicks off at R725 950 for the 2.0T Super Luxury and R775 950 for the Ultra Luxury.

According to IOL, the top of the range hybrid-powered model with the Super Luxury specification retails for R851 950. This model has 225kW and a mammoth 648Nm.

All models use a nine-speed automatic transmission with power sent to all four wheels. The GWM TANK 300 uses a ladder frame chassis.

Buyers also get a five-year or 75 000km service plan included across the range.
