Why we didn’t sign Erling Haaland – Napoli
Napoli president, Aurelio de Laurentiis has revealed how he failed in his attempt to sign Erling Haaland from Salzburg.
DAILY POST reports that Haaland came through the youth system and played for Norwegian sides Bryne and Molde, before joining Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in January 2019.
He left the Austrian side and joined Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund from where he moved to Manchester City in 2022 for a fee of €60 million (£51.2 million)
“I was on the verge of signing Erling Haaland for €50m from Salzburg,” De Laurentiis told reporters.
“The official proposal was ready but Mino Raiola told me: please, don’t try to sign Erling as I already planned his next move.”
De Laurentiis, has already confirmed that Napoli top striker, Victor Osimhen is leaving the club in the summer.
He added that there is a huge release clause in Osimhen’s contract.
