MLB spring training is underway with reigning NL Cy Young Award winner still available in free agency. However, with the MLB schedule fast approaching, it appears that the New York Yankees are among three teams in the mix to land him.

Since becoming a free agent, Snell has been seeking a multi-year contract that would make him one of the highest-paid MLB players in 2024. New York previously offered a five-year deal in the ballpark of $150 million total, but the two-time Cy Young Award winner turned it down.

  • Blake Snell career stats: 3.20 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 1,223-451 K-BB, 11.1 K/9, 2.71 K/BB ratio

Represented by Scott Boras, who has earned a reputation for dragging out free-agency negotiations close to Opening Day, the 31-year-old southpaw has been training on his own with spring training underway. After weeks of relative silence on the All-Star pitcher in MLB rumors, it appears we could be getting closer to a resolution.

According to MLB Network’s Mark Feinsand, the Yankees have a standing offer on the table from the New York Yankees right now. However, the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Angels are also in the mix to sign him.

San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays among MLB teams linked to 2 All-Star pitchers in free agency

Reporting in recent weeks has made it relatively clear that Snell isn’t willing to sign a one-year deal, instead seeking more long-term security. While it’s believed the Yankees have offered him a three-year contract, no details have emerged on what San Francisco or Los Angeles is putting on the table.

  • Blake Snell stats: 2.25 ERA, 11.7 K/9, 0.75 HR/9, 234-99 K-BB, 1.19 WHIP, 31.5 percent strikeout rate, .180 batting average allowed in 180 innings pitched

The Giants have been fairly active this offseason, acquiring Robbie Ray from the Seattle Mariners and signing outfielders Jorge Soler and Jung Hoo Lee. However, with Ray recovering from surgery, there’s a void in San Francisco’s rotation.

As for the Angels, it became a very quiet winter after Shohei Ohtani signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Mike Trout told reporters at spring training that is pushing for the team to sign Snell, who would fill the void in the Angels’ rotation.
