Aespa member Winter is currently recovering after undergoing surgery for her lungs.
In a statement sent to Korean media outlet Newsen, SM Entertainment said that Winter had pneumothorax surgery.
“As [pneumothorax] is a condition prone to recurrence, [the surgery] was carried out as a preventive measure in accordance with her doctor’s opinion, and the decision was made after plenty of discussion,” the agency said, as translated by Soompi.
“Regarding her future schedule, we will consider Winter’s recovery status our top priority moving forward,” they added.
A pneumothorax, or collapsed lung, happens when there is an air leak in the space between one’s lungs and chest wall.
