The weather is getting warmer, the azaleas are blooming, and the calendar has turned to April. That can mean only one thing in the sports world — it’s Masters week.

The PGA Tour’s major season started Thursday, as 89 of the best golfers in the world teed off at Augusta National in Georgia competing for the prestigious green jacket.

Unsurprisingly, World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler got off to a fast start Thursday. He shot 6-under in his first round and was one of the top performers on course. However, he found himself in second place behind a challenger from LIV Golf, as Bryson DeChambeau carded a 7-under 65 to lead the tournament with Round 1 mostly over.

Both DeChambeau and Scheffler put together strong, well-rounded performances. Each putted well on Augusta’s fast, tricky greens and enjoyed their usual ball-striking success to establish themselves among the tee-to-green leaders for the tournament.

The duo atop the leaderboard will still place plenty of competition heading into the weekend. Notably, Nicolai Hojgaard and Max Homa were within two and three shots of the lead, respectively, despite not finishing their rounds due to darkness. They will finish Friday morning with a chance to move up the leaderboard.

As for Tiger Woods, he didn’t finish his round either. He enjoyed a solid outing, though, shooting 1-under through 13 holes to close the day tied for 17th place — and well inside the cut line as he looks to make history at Augusta.

Masters live updates, highlights from Friday’s Round 2

(All times Eastern.)

7:41 p.m.: Rahm knocks down a par to close his round and stay above the cut line. It was up-in-the-air for a while, but he’s safely in now for the weekend.

7:30 p.m.: Scheffler and his fellow partners are heading into the final hole of the day in what’s been a long round for everyone involved.

7:18 p.m.: It’s been a 48 hours to forget for the defending champion, Jon Rahm, who is teetering on the cut line as the round winds down.

7:09 p.m.: Scheffler knocks down a birdie to maintain a tie for the lead heading into 17.

6:50 p.m.: The race at the top of the leaderboard is heating up, with no one really pulling away just yet. It’s setting up to be an exciting weekend ahead.

6:25 p.m.: McIlroy escapes the trees on his second shot on 14, and the ball trickles over the green.

6:15 p.m.: Scheffler’s putt for par is wide on 13, which pulls him back from the sole lead spot. His bogey puts him in a three-way tie for first with DeChambeau and Homa.

6:14 p.m.: McIlroy is just a few inches short of a birdie on 13. He taps in for a five-par.

5:48 p.m.: OH WOW! Byeong Hun An chips one in from distance at 16. That nifty finish gets him to 1 under for the week and serves as a highlight for his trip to Augusta.

5:41 p.m.: DeChambeau wraps up his day in disappointing fashion after bogeying the 18th hole. It was a rocky stretch toward the end, but he didn’t damage himself too much heading into the weekend as he is just one off the lead.

5:20 p.m.: The wind is wreaking havoc at the moment, with the players on the course having to navigate that and dodge the sand.

5 p.m.: We have a change at the top! Scheffler knocks down a birdie at the 10th, moving into a tie with DeChambeau

4:50 p.m.: DeChambeau finds the other edge of the lip on the next hole, where he’ll have to settle for par at 15.

4:38 p.m.: Collin Morakawa is making a charge up the leaderboard heading into the weekend as a birdie on 18 gets him to 3 under.

4:26 p.m.: That is a painful sequence for DeChambeau. He tried to save par at 14, but will instead drop a shot to 7 under after the ball refuses to go down.

4:15 p.m.: Scottie Scheffler records another bogey on the front 9 of Round 2. He’s up to two bogeys through seven holes today his bogey-less showing on Thursday. It drops him to 5 under and into third place.

3:56 p.m.: Tiger Woods is projected to make history. With a par on the 18th hole, Woods finishes the first two rounds of the Masters 1 over, meaning he should make this weekend’s cut. It marks the 24 consecutive Masters in which the legend has advanced to Round 3, breaking the tie for the all-time record with Fred Couples and Player.

3:55 p.m.: Max Homa wraps up his second day with a par on the 18th to finish the round 1 under, and at 6 under for the tournament. It’s another strong showing out of the Californian, and it keeps him in a tie for second for now.

3:42 p.m.: Bryson DeChambeau responds right away after his bogey, shooting a birdie on the 12th hole to retake his position atop the leaderboard. He’s shot even on the day with six holes remaining in Round 2.

3:25 p.m.: It’s now a three-way tie for first place as both Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau record their first bogeys of the day. Scheffler needs five shots on the Par 4 5th hole, marking his first bogey of the tournament. DeChambeau is forced to shoot five strokes on the Par 4 11th hole. Both drop to 6 under with Max Homa.

2:25 p.m.: Here comes Scottie Scheffler. The 2022 Masters champion shot a bogey-free Round 1 yesterday to finish 6 under, and he wastes no time improving his score in Round 2, securing a birdie on the 2nd hole to move to 7 under. It puts him into a tie with Bryson DeChambeau for first place.

2:05 p.m.: A bogey on the 11th hole drops Max Homa to 6 under, and it opens the lane for Bryson DeChambeau to reclaim first. A birdie on the 7th hole allows the LIV Golf pro to move into sole possession of first.

1:52 p.m.: Nicolai Hojgaard has been making moves up the leaderboard, and finds himself in a tie for second after securing back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th holes. The Danish golfer has four birdies in his last six holes, along with a par and bogey. It puts him at 6 under with four holes left in Round 2.

1:22 p.m.: There is a new leader in the clubhouse. With Max Homa maintaining his pace at 7 under, Bryson DeChambeau’s bogey on the 4th hole allows Homa to claim sole possession of first for now.

12:45 p.m.: Tiger Woods continues to flip-flop between birdies and bogeys. He records a bogey on the 7th hole, but responds with a birdie on the 8th to remain 1 over par.

12:35 p.m.: While Max Homa has surged to the top of the leaderboard, his counterpart at the top, Bryson DeChambeau begins his day with three straight pars to remain in a tie for the lead. He birdied the first three holes in Round 1, so it’s a slower start to the day for the LIV Golfer.

12:10 p.m.: After recording bogeys on the 4th and 5th holes, Tiger Woods responds with his second birdie of Round 2 on the 6th, moving him back to 1 over par.

11:40 a.m.: Homa can’t be stopped. He picks up another birdie to move to 7 under, putting him a tie with Bryson DeChambeau for the lead. That is his ninth birdie through his first 22 holes at Augusta.

11:20 a.m.: Tiger Woods has his first birdie of Round 2. The legend sinks a birdie on the 3rd hole to get back to even at the tournament.

11 a.m.: After a birdie on the 2nd, Max Homa finds himself tied with Scottie Scheffler for second place. The pair sit at 6 under, just one stroke behind the leader, Bryson DeChambeau.

10:46 a.m.: Here is an interesting Masters note — nobody in the last 19 years has won the Masters after finishing outside the top 11 after Round 1. Either that trend is going to be bucked for the first time in nearly two decades, or one of the following golfers will be donning the green jacket by Sunday night.

10:20 a.m.: Tiger Woods is off. Just a half an hour after finishing his first round, the five-time Masters champ is on the course again for Round 2.

10:05 a.m.: The first round at the 2024 Masters is officially over, as the last few groups who needed to finish on Friday have turned in their score cards for their first 18 holes. The second round is now in full swing.

9:50 a.m.: Tiger Woods ends his first round 1 over, shooting a 73 on the day. He’ll have a quick turnaround, as his tee time for Round 2 is scheduled for 10:18 a.m. ET.

9:35 a.m.: Max Homa puts together his best round at the Masters in Round 1, shooting a 67 to put himself in a tie for third place. It’s the first time he has shot in the 60s at Augusta.

9:20 a.m.: In some not-so-good news, Jordan Spieth has made Masters history … but not the good kind. The 2015 Masters winner quadruple-bogeyed on the 15th in the first round, the second time he has struggled with the hole. He becomes the only player in the last 20 years with multiple scores of 9 or worse at the 15th hole.

9 a.m.: Max Homa pulls himself into a tie with Scottie Scheffler for second place with back-to-back birdies on No. 16 and No. 17, moving him to 6 under with one more hole left in his first round.

8:10 a.m.: Among those out early to finish Round 1 is Tiger Woods, who shot 1 under through 13 holes on Thursday.

8 a.m.: Play has resumed at Augusta with nine groups set to finish their first round on Friday. The weather delay on Thursday resulted in a number of golfers having to pause their first 18 holes due to darkness.

7:56 p.m.: And there’s the horn. Play at the Masters is done for the day and will pick up tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. ET.

7:43 p.m.: Tommy Fleetwood is trying to make a move before they call it a day on course. He closed the front nine with three birdies move into a tie for fifth place.

7:40 p.m.: The sun will set soon at Augusta. Play will not finish today after a two-and-a-half-hour rain delay to start the day, so soon, the horn will sound and golfers will be told to finish in the morning.

On-course golf analyst Dottie Pepper just said it “looks a lot darker out here than it does on the screen” while referencing the ESPN broadcast.

7:24 p.m.: Woods had a nice third shot to save par on the 11th. He remains 1 under par with daylight dwindling at Augusta.

7:07 p.m.: A Tiger Woods update: the five-time Masters champion is 1 under par through 10 holes. He’s showing well, but as always, the question is about whether he will recover well enough to repeat his solid showing on the tournament’s second day.

6:57 p.m.: Nicolai Hojgaard is having a nice first day at the Masters. The Danish golfer got down to 4 under par with a nice chip-in on the 12th. That put him into a tie for third for the event.

6:38 p.m.: Some notable scores from Round 1 — Rory McIlroy finished with a 1-under 71 in his quest to win his first green jacket. Reigning champion Jon Rahm finished 1 over for the day as he looks to become the first since Tiger Woods in 2001 and 2002 to go back-to-back as Masters champion.

6:26 p.m.: Get to know the name Neal Shipley. The US Amateur runner-up made this birrdie to get to 2 under par. That makes him the low amateur in the field, at present.

6:18 p.m: Tiger Woods still has it, even after the litany of injuries he has suffered during his career.

6:03 p.m.: Scheffler is close to matching Bryson DeChambeau’s lead. The World No. 1 golfer birdied the 16th, his fourth in the last five holes. He’ll need one more on the last two holes to match the LIV Golf star.

5:51 p.m.: Jon Rahm needed only two shots at the 16th to get the ball in the hole. The defending Masters champion is at even par through 17 holes on the tournament’s first day.

5:36 p.m.: Patrick Cantlay goes from over par to under par with one swing thanks to this eagle hole-out.

5:24 p.m.: Rory McIlroy drains a long birdie putt to move to 2 under on the tournament. He is now five shots off the lead as he looks to complete the career grand slam.

5:11 p.m.: Matt Fitzpatrick handled Amen Corner quite well on his first day of the 2024 Masters. He birdied each of the three holes and moved to 4 under for the tournament (though he would give up a stroke on the hole after Amen Corner).

4:58 p.m.: Tiger Woods remains at 1 under through three holes. He had a nice par save on the second hole after he cozied his tee shot against a tree and had to hit his club backward to get it back in the fairway.

4:40 p.m.: There’s a reason that Scottie Scheffler is the No. 1 golfer in the world. It’s shots like this one, that helped him improve to 3 under par for the tournament.

4:20 p.m.: Bryson DeChambeau secures a par on No. 18 to end his day with a 65. He is 7 under par and has a three-stroke lead on the field, however, there is plenty of golf left in Round 1.

4:13 p.m.: One hole, one birdie for Tiger Woods. The five-time Masters champ records a birdie on the first hole of Round 1 for just the second time in his 26 trips to Augusta.

4:07 p.m.: Welcome to the leaderboard, Viktor Hovland. The Norwegian golfer sinks three consecutive birdies on Nos. 7, 8 and 9 to move his score to 4 under.

3:59 p.m.: Another eagle! Kurt Kitayama needs just three strokes on the No. 2 par 5 to move to 2 under.

3:57 p.m.: When you’re hot, you’re hot — and Bryson DeChambeau is showing no signs of slowing down. The LIV Golf pro sinks his third consecutive birdie to move to 7 under, with just one hole to go in his first round.

3:52 p.m.: Tiger Woods is back. The five-time Masters champion is set to tee off for his 26th time at Augusta. Woods was forced to withdraw from the major last year with injury after making the cut.

3:40 p.m.: Bryson DeChambeau follows up his birdie on No. 15 with another birdie on No. 16, extending his lead to two strokes.

3:30 p.m.: After Ryan Fox shoots a bogey on No. 13, Bryson DeChambeau secures a birdie on No. 15 that allows him to overtake Fox for the lead.

3:10 p.m.: It should not come to the surprise of anyone that Scottie Scheffler is off to a strong start to the Masters. A birdie of No. 6 moves the 2022 Masters champion to 2 under.

2:50 p.m.: Bryson DeChambeau has no issue with Amen’s Corner. He pars No. 13 to take sole possession of second place, moving to 4 under.

2:10 p.m.: A good way to shoot yourself to the top of the leaderboard? How about an eagle? Ryan Fox needs just three shots to find the hole on No. 8 — a par 5. It moves his score to 5 under to take sole possession of first.

1:40 p.m.: Byeong Hun An is another golfer contending for the top of the leaderboard early. The Korean pro nails a long putt on No. 6 to go to 3 under.

1:25 p.m.: Harris English nearly delivers the first hole-in-one at the 2024 Masters. His tee shot on No. 6 comes inches away from rolling in, leading to a birdie on the hole.

1 p.m.: The first wave of the featured groups is out on the course. Defending champion Jon Rahm is among the first featured trio, teeing off with Matt Fitzpatrick and Nick Dunlap.

12:30 p.m.: DeChambeau continues his strong front-nine showing with a bunker save on No. 4. He has grabbed ahold of the leaderboard early on Thursday.

12:05 p.m.: Bryson DeChambeau is off to a hot start at Augusta. Three consecutive birdies put the LIV Golfer at 3 under after three holes.

11 a.m.: Jon Rahm enters the 2024 competition as the defending champion. He is one of a number of players on the LIV Golf tour at Augusta fighting for the green jacket.

10:25 a.m.: The 2024 Masters officially kicks off with the ceremonial tee shots from Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson.

10:15 a.m.: It’s still a bit gloomy at Augusta with dark clouds in the sky. However, the rain is supposed to be gone and the action should commence soon.

9:30 a.m.: For all you visual learners out there, here is a look at all of the holes at Augusta National and the pin placements.

8:10 a.m.: The tee times have been pushed back until 10:30 a.m. The earliest the first group is set to start is 10:30 a.m., which is when Erik van Rooyen and Jake Knapp will officially begin the Masters Tournament. However, the weather could move the start back further.

6:30 a.m: Welcome to our coverage of the Masters, where there’s some breaking news to begin the day, as the start times for Round 1 of this year’s tournament have been delayed due to thunderstorms.

The opening tee shots were due to be struck at 8:00 a.m. local time but they have now been pushed back by at least an hour, due to heavy rain and strong winds.

A statement on the Masters website read: “Tee times have been delayed until further notice. The first round will not begin before 09:00.”
