police on op selamat duties end up becoming ‘midwives’ to deliver baby

Traffic personnel help the Thai family at the side of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) on Monday.

KUALA LUMPUR – A pregnant woman from Thailand faced a moment of distress when she had to give birth by the side of the North-South Expressway (Plus) on Monday.

However, the baby was delivered safely with the assistance of policemen who happened to be patrolling in the area.

In a Facebook post, the police shared details of an incident where an officer and two rank-and-file personnel played the role of ‘first responders’ on the northbound lane of the Plus Expressway.

During the incident, they provided assistance to a Thai family who was about to welcome their newborn.

According to the post, the incident occurred while they were on duty for Operation Selamat 21.

“The patrol car that Inspector Mat Fauzi, Corporal Shahril and Corporal Hariz Zulfadli were in was stopped by the Thai nationals.

“They then informed the on-duty officers and officials about the pregnant woman,” the post said.

At first, the Thai couple’s vehicle was escorted to the nearby hospital.

“However, the woman gave birth to her baby on the side of the highway with the assistance of the police officers involved.

“An ambulance later arrived at the scene to provide treatment to the woman,” the post added
