The diverted flights due to bad weather caused by the shear line have already returned to Davao International Airport (DIA) on Friday, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said.

“All previously diverted flights have successfully returned to DIA today, January 19, seamlessly restoring normal operations,” the CAAP said in a statement.

“Also, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines Operations Center reported that weather remains clear with no signs of rainfall,” it added.

On Thursday, three domestic flights to DIA were diverted due to the risk of the bad weather in Davao Region.

Among the diverted flights were CebGo flights from Zamboanga and Cagayan, as well as a PAL Express flight from Manila.

According to DIA Area Center 11 manager Rex Obcena, the airport’s flood drain systems are being monitored to ensure that there are no clogs and prevent airside flooding.

While the Davao City government has ordered work-from-home arrangements due to continuous rains, the CAAP said its Davao Region office has required safety engineering units to attend to their duties.

In Monkayo, Davao de Oro, at least seven people were killed, an infant was critically injured, and around four others were missing in a landslide.

The victims were holding a prayer worship inside a home at Purok 19, Pagasa in Barangay Mt. Diwata when the land slid down and buried them.

A total of 187,108 people or 44,888 were affected by the shear line in Davao Region as of Thursday, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Of the affected population, 6,709 people or 1,990 families were staying in evacuation centers, while 2,198 persons or 525 families were taking shelter in other places.

Assistance worth P2,917,258 has been provided for the victims so far, according to the NDRRMC.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA Integrated News
