Aston Villa and England star Tyrone Mings has rubbished speculation that he could retire, vowing to return from his serious ACL injury.

Mings is set to miss virtually the entire season after rupturing his ACL in Villa’s opening Premier League game of the campaign against Newcastle United back in August.

It was a devastating blow for the centre-back who was in contention for a place in England squad for next summer’s Euro 2024.

He has also missed out on the Villans’ first European campaign in 13 years, with Unai Emery side the favourites to win the Europa Conference League following their fantastic start to the season.

On Tuesday morning, Mings posted a cryptic message on social media which lead to worried speculation from fans that the injury is so severe that he has been forced into retirement.

‘Grateful for all of your support. I’ll share an update with you all later today,’ he put on his Instagram story accompanied by a photo of the 30-year-old looking sombre.

Now, the defender has shared that update and thankfully for Villa fans he says he will not be hanging up his boots anytime soon.

Accompanied by a video documenting his recovery process, he wrote across social media: ‘Can’t get rid of me that easy! You’re all helping me way more than you realise.

‘Thank you so much for all the messages people have sent me, I’ve read pretty much every single one.

‘The cards, gifts in the post, the tweets, everything has been so appreciated and has helped me through this early stage. I’ll keep you updated.’

Formerly the club captain, Mings has made 166 appearances for Villa since joining them from Bournemouth in 2019, helping them win promotion back to the top-flight that year and then reaching the League Cup final the following season.

He has been capped 18 times by his country, scoring twice, and was part of England’s squad for their run to the Euro 2020 final.

Villa are fifth in the Premier League, jus three points off leaders Manchester City, and face a tough test against Tottenham on Sunday.
