What Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir have to say about figure skating in Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – One of the most recognizable duos in figure skating discussed Friday’s U.S. Figure Skating Championships and their impression of Columbus as a host city with NBC4 anchor Jarod Smalley.
Figure skating stars Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir will call Friday’s U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

In the women’s free skate, the winner will take home the national championship. The top two skaters are separated by four-tenths of a point. The duel is between 16-year-old Isabeau Levito and 24-year-old Amber Glenn.
“Tonight is going to be very, very exciting,” Weir said. “Amber Glenn has been a crowd favorite for a long time, and this year is the first time that she really has the grit, the groundswell of support and the training to possibly win the national title. But she faces very stiff competition in the leader after the short program, Isabeau Levito, 16 years old, reigning national champion.”
Lipinski said she was very excited to find out that the championships are being held in Ohio.
“I may be a little biased, but I’m very excited that Nationals is in Ohio,” Lipinski said. “My husband [was] born and raised in Ohio. So we have the, you know, the connection there.”
Friday’s figure skating championships can be watched on NBC4 at 8 p.m. Lipinski and Weir will be providing commentary on the competition.
