Vietnam War veteran Michael Von Berg has branded Waverley council’s decision to have a dawn service on Australia Day “disrespectful” and “very disappointing.”
“The dawn service is sacrosanct to Anzac Day, and it has been for over 100 years,” the military cross recipient told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“For Waverly council to call this a dawn service on Australia Day is I think to all veterans, and to all serving members, I think it’s disrespectful, and very disappointing.

Mr Von Berg’s comments are in response to Waverley Council’s decision to host an Australia Day dawn service on January 26.
The Anzac Day style service will acknowledge the resilience and survival of Indigenous people, recognising it as a ‘day of mourning’ for many First Nations people.
