Προκαλεί Τούρκος καθηγητής Ιστορίας χαρακτηρίζοντας την Αγία Σοφία «απαίσιο κτίριο». Μάλιστα προχώρησε ένα βήμα παραπέρα, λέγοντας ότι «κανένας σοβαρός Μουσουλμάνος δεν θα προσευχόταν εκεί».

Συγκεκριμένα ο καθηγητής Ιλμπέρ Ορταϊλί είπε σε τηλεοπτική εκπομπή που μεταδίδεται στο YouTube:

«ОњПЂОїПЃОµОЇП‚ ОЅО± ПЂПЃОїПѓОµП…П‡О·ОёОµОЇП‚ ПѓП„О·ОЅ О‘ОіОЇО± ОЈОїП†ОЇО±; Είναι ένα απαίσιο κτίριο για προσευχή. Είναι ένα απαίσιο κτίριο. Κανένας σοβαρός μουσουλμάνος δεν θα προσευχόταν εκεί. Αυτό το κτίριο σκοτεινιάζει την ψυχή ενός ανθρώπου».

Σημειώνεται ότι πριν από λίγους μήνες, ο ίδιος είχε δηλώσει ότι η Αγία Σοφία πρέπει να κλείσει εντελώς για πιστούς και τουρίστες, καθώς υπάρχει σοβαρός κίνδυνος κατάρρευσής της από πιθανό σεισμό στην Τουρκία.
